Project overview
The façade architecture plays a key role in this. The glued Alkmaar facing brick was chosen a nuanced brick with a distinct red Kempen base colour, enriched by a vibrant colour palette. Within the façade, shades of orange, red, ochre yellow, and accents of bordeaux and purple subtly alternate. By applying the bricks with a glued joint without visible mortar lines a clean, monolithic façade is created in which the natural variation and lively texture of the Alkmaar brick come fully into their own.
This combination of colour, texture and construction technique results in a façade that feels both contemporary and rooted. Its warm appearance contrasts in a refined way with the building’s modest volumes and visually ties in with the streetscape of Sint Michiels, where small scale and tranquillity prevail.
The apartments themselves are designed with attention to light, privacy and energy efficiency. Large windows and understated frames allow maximum natural light without compromising calm and comfort. Each apartment has a private outdoor space garden or terrace and the overall plan is complemented by green accents.
Wittemolenstraat 46‑48 is a fine example of how contemporary architecture can respectfully integrate into an existing residential area with the facing brick as a connecting element between past and future.
