Project overview
For the façade, the Floren Anglia, a warm, deep-red wire-cut brick from the De Rode façade brick range, was chosen. This nuanced brick, with its natural variations, evokes a familiar and timeless feeling, forming an elegant bridge between traditional masonry and contemporary architecture.
The bricks were laid in a random bond with a 9 mm joint, carefully matched in color and texture. This masonry technique emphasizes the craftsmanship of the façade and creates a lively, rhythmic appearance. The variation in brick lengths and jointing highlights the natural tones of the Anglia brick.
The result is a warm, textured façade that blends seamlessly into the streetscape of Nieuwkerken, where tranquility and human scale are central.
The building was designed with attention to light, privacy, and comfort. Generous windows allow natural light to flood the interiors, while the layout promotes both intimacy and efficiency.
This project demonstrates how contemporary architecture can respond to the identity of an existing residential environment. The choice of a characterful brick, combined with a random bond and 9 mm joint, strengthens the connection with the surroundings and gives the building a warm, durable appearance.
